Halloween wrap up...

To me the day after Halloween is a little like boxing day. The glow of the occasion still lingers (along with a vague sense of sadness that another one has come and gone and the less than vague shame spiral that goes hand in hand with too much sugar).

This was a great one. Awesome crafts, our costumes turned out (even Georgia's 11th hour change of mind), and we only cried a little at bedtime last night after the inevitable sugar crash...sniff.

Glitter played its usual starring role...

Sparkle quickie...

My daughter decided yesterday to be a butterfly instead of the witch costume I had laboured over. To be fair I had found THE best glitter butterfly wings, and of course bought them (cause you never know right)?!
Well, she saw them...long story short I had two days to pull the rest of the costume together (and two days with no power thanks to Sandy). Today has been a mad rush of glue guns and this stroke of last minute (literally, it took 15 minutes) genius. My son is now short one pair of rubber boots, but who knows he may prefer them this way.

Glitter (butterfly) boots...
Mod Podge + rubber boots + a big bag of turquoise glitter = awesomeness!

It's Beginning to Look A lot Like Creepy...

Halloween is almost here and the kids and I have spent the past week or so decorating up the house for the occasion. We are basically done, save a few rather ambitious glittered pumpkin projects (that will most likely end in a family wide grounding from sparkles).
We will of course burn that bridge when we come to it.

This weekend is all about hot glue and finishing touches to various costumes and headpieces. Trying to convince my husband to rock a unitard...you know, the usual scary All Hallow's activities.

Some shots of our efforts so far...

 Our dining room...

An actual plaster replica of my Peter pointer...totally freaked out the kids.

The easiest wreath ever. Take a king sized sheet (I borrowed one from last years Halloween party) and tear into long strips. Wrap pieces around a wreath form (Michael's is my go to place). Add a snappy bow (hellooooooo Michael's) and a cut out of a printed skull. I got this particular one from The Graphics Fairy clip art site then added my own embellishments and type. Hot glue all loose ends and Voila!
The whole project took about an hour (shopping excluded).

I may leave the crows up year round, perhaps jaunty them up for Christmas. I think they give off just the right amount of ominous...keep the hooligans and politicians away.

Only five more sleeps!

A Bit Halloweenie...

Halloween prep is in full tilt boogie mode at our house. My personal fav Holiday wise, and really a time to let your freak flag fly (who am I kidding, we rarely take that flag down).
Pics to come, but for now I will leave you with a bit of a teaser. The kids and I have been doing some creepy colouring (guess which one is mine)?

One Mans Junk...

Will eventually end up in my house freaking out my husband.

For the first year we lived in Orono I spent a considerable amount of time in antique shops, (this town has more than it's fair share). It's sort of like the Mandarin, but with other peoples stuff instead of bean salad and sushi.
After the first year it slowed a bit. Our house was filling up and the thrill of finding hidden treasures had worn off. I was having a second hand hangover.
I would find myself laying on the couch, surrounded by piles of random (sometimes weird) "treasures", in a full blown shame spiral. So, I took a break. I purged a lot of the "ohmygodthisissobizarreiloveit" items, and decided to make a conscious effort to be more juried re. what comes into my home.

These gems made the cut...

This amazing doctors bag...

I found these Ken and Barbie go Western doll set, and I was super stoked.
I gave them to the kids and said "I am just going to grab my camera, hang on"
(the boxes being my favourite part).
The minute I left the room they ripped open the packages like it was their job.
Sigh.

A rather odd choice of attire for a cowgirl (and she looks heavily medicated), but no judging here.

Ken had obviously spent too long in his box, soon after emerging his pants basically exploded black flecks of paint everywhere.
Shep was not impressed and soon went back monster truck smash up.

"Ken, I am your father"...

I saved my favourite for last.
Finding Ziploc bags filled with these gems made my week.
I had no idea what they were, but others informed me of felt boards and Sunday school lessons. The nuns we hung out with wore knee length skirts and played acoustic guitar, I have no memory of this level of felty Holiness.
Not sure what craftacular awesomness is going to happen, but this is gold.
(And the best 10 bucks I ever spent - no regrets)!

Blog on Blog Lov'n...

Hey all, I was super happy to wake up this morning and find shots of our little house hanging out at the Marion House Book blog. Emma and family (brand spanking new baby included) came on out to take in the Orono Fair. It was a day that included great friends, an alarming amount of bacon, a smash up derby and deep fried butter.
Food coma aside, a brilliant day.

I also happily guest posted on the Marion House Book last week about the 10 things I have (sorta) learned thus far being a Mama...some real pearls of wisdom there folks - check it out!

I will leave you with some shots of the kids in their back to school finery. They started Sk this year and I was rather sad to see them head back (I love hanging out with these hooligans). I am now however drunk on freedom and possibilities. Hic.
